Position Overview
We are seeking a Criminal Defense Law Clerk (part-time) to join our criminal defense team in the Charleston, SC office. This is a great opportunity for a rising 2L or 3L law school student who is interested in criminal law.  In this role, you will help assist with clerical duties, client support, and special projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a law student with demonstrated interest and experience in criminal defense work—particularly those who have participated in a criminal law clinic or similar program.

Responsibilities

• Organize and maintain case files and documents
• Assist with drafting and preparing legal documents
• Provide general administrative and office support
• Assist with client and court-related communications and tasks
• Perform other duties as needed to support the attorney and practice
• Obtain police records and evidence

Qualifications and Skills

• Currently a 2L or 3L at an accredited law school
• Prior experience in criminal defense, preferably through a law school clinic or internship
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent research, analytical, and organizational abilities
• Professional demeanor and commitment to client confidentiality
• Strong organizational and attention-to-detail skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Professional, reliable, and able to work independently
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
• Genuine interest in criminal defense and willingness to learn
• Availability to work approximately 5–10 hours per week in Charleston, South Carolina

Compensation:
Paid position: $17 - $20 per hour
